Exterior platform lifts are specifically designed to mount on the outside of the vehicle, plugging into a Class II or Class III hitch receiver on vehicles ranging from sedans to minivans to SUVs and trucks. There are even some micro lifts that can be mounted on Class 1 hitches to carry the smallest travel scooters and lightweight power wheelchairs. Most notably, exterior lifts are suggested if there is either not enough trunk space, or if false flooring or storage compartments do not allow for interior lifts to be installed.
