Selecting the right vehicle lift for mobility equipment is crucial to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of wheelchairs, scooters, or other mobility devices. Here are some factors to consider when choosing a vehicle lift:
  1. Type of Mobility Device: Consider the specific type and dimensions of the mobility device(s) you plan to transport. Different lifts are designed for wheelchairs, scooters, power chairs, or other specialized equipment. See Compatibility Calculator for HARMAR COMPATIBILITY TOOL or BRUNO MOBILITY MATCHER
  2. Vehicle Compatibility: Ensure that the lift is compatible with your vehicle. Consider the make and model, as well as the type of hitch or mounting points required. Some lifts are suitable for vans, SUVs, or trucks, while others may be designed for sedans. See Compatibility Calculator HARMAR COMPATIBILITY TOOL or BRUNO MOBILITY MATCHER
  3. Weight Capacity: Verify that the lift has the capacity to support the weight of your mobility device. Account for the heaviest possible load, including any accessories or attachments.
  4. Type of Lift: Platform lifts: These provide a platform on which the mobility device is loaded, and the platform is then lifted into the vehicle. They are suitable for various devices. Exterior vs. Interior lifts: Exterior lifts are mounted outside the vehicle, while interior lifts are installed inside. Consider your preference and the available space in your vehicle.
  5. Installation Requirements: Some lifts may require professional installation, while others are designed for easy user installation. Ensure that you can meet the installation requirements and that it can be done for your specific vehicle.
  6. Ease of Use: Look for lifts with user-friendly controls and features. A simple and efficient operation can save time and effort.
  7. Accessibility: Consider how easy it is to load and unload the mobility device onto the lift. Features like automatic folding/unfolding and one-person operation can enhance accessibility.
  8. Power Source: Choose between lifts that operate on the vehicle's power supply or have independent power sources. Battery-powered lifts offer more flexibility but require regular charging.
  9. Foldability and Storage: If space is a concern, look for lifts that can be folded or easily removed when not in use. This is particularly important for interior lifts.
  10. Safety Features: Ensure the lift has safety features such as straps, locks, and automatic shut-off mechanisms. Some lifts also have manual backup systems in case of power failure.

Common Questions

Which lift will work with my vehicle and my scooter or wheelchair?
Call our expert staff and tell us your vehicle make, model, and year, and the scooter or power wheelchair you plan to lift. We can tell you if the combination will work. If you place your order online, please note your vehicle and scooter or wheelchair information in the notes section during checkout and we will make sure the combination works before your order is shipped.

How do I install my scooter or wheelchair lift?

Installing Manual Wheelchair and Scooter Lifts:
Most manual wheelchair and scooter lifts can be installed yourself. Manual lifts, like the EZ Carrier line, slide into a hitch on the back of your vehicle.  Need a hitch? SpinLife recommends using U-Haul for hitch installation (click here to visit the U-Haul Hitch site).

Installing Power Wheelchair and Scooter Lifts:
Electrically-powered wheelchair and scooter lifts may require drilling into the trunk or storage space of the vehicle, or wiring the unit directly to the car battery, so SpinLife recommends that a reputable auto mechanic or location install the power car lifts.

Will I be charged sales tax?
SpinLife is required to collect sales tax for items shipped to certain states. Please click here: Sales Tax Info to see if your state is on the list.
