Overview
The Aero X has established itself as a great ultra lightweight option for those seeking a folding frame wheelchair. The Aero X has been a favorite of ultra lightweight users since it came to the market in 2007 and continues its popularity in its updated Series 2 version. The Aero X is available as either a light weight sporty version with a fixed front end where the legrests are non-removable or you can build the Aero X with removable legrests to make transferring in and out of the wheelchair easier. The Aero X features a Modular Design which allows it to be just as fully functional for the user needing a basic, standard wheelchair or the user who will need advanced seating systems for support and positioning.
What Makes It Different:
TiLite’s True-Fit system is a standard for all their models including the Aero X. The True-Fit system allows the user to tailor the chair to their personal body preferences and needs. The adjustability is made possible through an infinite adjustment mechanism that is not restricted by a series of pre-set holes. Instead of utilizing pre-set holes, which weaken the frame and limit adjustability, the Aero X uses components that clamp onto the chair such as its patented Curved Axle Plate which provides for the widest range of center of gravity adjustments as well as rear seat to floor height settings. The Aero X has an improved Speedloader Design for its caster fork assembly which makes for easier and more durable adjustments for caster wheel positioning. The footplates on the Series 2 have been redesigned with a lighter weight and non-slip surface. Snap-In Seat Saddles are used when folding out the seat for sitting. The Snap-In Seat Saddles lock the seat tubing in place creating a rigid folding mechanism and a chair that rides and feels like a rigid frame model while still having the conveniences of a folding frame model.
Why We Like It:
The Aero X can be a great ultra lightweight option for a large variety of users and still be uniquely customizable to the specific requirements and desires of every individual user. By selecting a Fixed Front frame type the user can option for the lightest weight and most rigid version of the Aero X. If a user prefers easier transfers in and out of the Aero X, they will select the Swing Away frame type. An extensive variety of options for seat sizes, armrests, wheel types, frame dimensions, and paint colors allow the user to personalize and tailor the Aero X to perfectly fit their personal needs and preferences.
Measuring Guide
View Detailed Measurement Guide
- Seat Depth1
- Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg.
- Back Height2
- Measured from the seat base to the top of the wheelchair back. Depends on how much upper back support is needed, and also affects freedom for the upper body to rotate.
- Rear Seat to Floor3
- Measurement from the ground to the rear seat edge. Relative to the front seat-to-floor dimension, this determines the rearward slope ("dump" or "squeeze") of the wheelchair seat.
- Hanger Angle4
- Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular.
- Seat Width5
- Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant.
- Wheel Camber6
- Angle of the wheel relative to the vertical. More camber improves stability and agility, but also limits ability to pass through narrow spaces. A typical daily wheelchair uses three degrees of camber.
- Front Seat to Floor7
- Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Do not add the footrest clearance if the wheelchair will be foot-propelled.
- Footrest Width8
- Measure from the inside of each legrest tubing the distance or desired distance between legrests.
- Center of Gravity9
- Measure from the front of the seat back post to the center of the rear axel.
- Seat to Footrest Length10
- Measure from the edge of the seat upholstery to the top rear of the footrest.
- Backrest Angle11
- Measure the the angle of the back post to the floor. Ninety degrees will be perpendicular to the floor, to approximate the angle from the back post to the seat, subtract two degrees from measurment for every .5" of dump.
