Anti-Tip Tubes

Anti-Tip tubes are a wheelchair option that offers stability and safety by preventing the wheelchair from falling backwards. Anti-tips consist of a small wheel or two at the end of an extended tube that mounts behind the wheelchair.

The position, customization and adjustability of the anti-tip tubes depend on the wheelchair. Most all standard, lightweight, ultralightweight and sport recreation wheelchairs offer anti-tips as an option. Anti-tips will improve safety and in regards to court and sport recreation wheelchairs, increase performance.

Ultralightweight and sport recreational wheelchairs are light and quick and the addition of anti-tips helps lighten the front of the wheelchair, displaces weight further back and increases the chair's lateral response time, as well as quicker start times. When it comes to court and sport recreational wheelchairs, there are three types of mobility during wheelchair sports to understand and get the most performance from your wheelchair and anti-tip tubes. Static mobility is represented during serves or overheads, Moderate mobility is used during ground strokes or to re-direct the court chair and Active mobility is extreme movement during an all-out push. An anti-tip tube plays an important role in all of these mobility phases, not only providing safety but allowing the athlete to shift weight behind the axles for quick agility and speed.
