Choosing an Ultralightweight Wheelchair

Almost every wheelchair manufacturer has a line of ultralightweight wheelchairs, so there is a lot of variety.  It can be confusing, but we have broken them down into three major categories to help you find the right chair.  The three categories are Rigid, Folding and Titanium Rigid and Folding.  The following overviews and tips should answer some questions and help get you on your way.  Always remember, we have ultralightweight chair users and experts on staff, so don't hesitate to call and ask for help in finding the chair and options that are going to work best for you.

Rigid Ultralightweight Wheelchairs

Rigid wheelchairs are by far the most popular choice in ultralightweight wheelchairs.  A rigid frame eliminates the additional hardware and mechanisms of a folding frame, lightening up the weight and increasing the response and performance.  These wheelchairs have a long list of options including the basics like push handles and flip-up armrests to Spinergy SPOX wheels and light-up front casters. 

Folding Ultralightweight Wheelchairs

If you need to transport your wheelchair behind the seat of your car or can't live without swing-away legrests but don't want to sacrifice weight or performance, then a folding ultralightweight wheelchair is the choice for you. These wheelchairs offer all the options of a rigid wheelchair with the necessary benefit of being able to fold up with a tug on the seat upholstery.

Titanium Ultralightweight Wheelchairs

Titanium is the material of choice these days for its lightness, strength, durability and the built-in shock absorption of the metal.  SpinLife carries both folding and rigid titanium chairs.  Titanium wheelchairs are generally more expensive and may take a little longer to build (about 10-14 days instead of 3-5 days), but they are the chair of choice for our staff members.  If you can swing the price difference, they are your absolute best choice.

How do I buy a manual wheelchair from Spinlife?
You can build your wheelchair and order it online or for these more involved ultralightweight wheelchairs, you can give us a call and we will help you through it.

Can you bill Medicare for me?
Ultralightweight wheelchairs, falling under the Medicare code K0005, can be billed as a purchase.  Ultralightweight wheelchairs are only paid for by Medicare in very specific situations usually involving a very active person who requires the chair to be able to complete their activities of daily living i.e. driving, going to work or school and living independently.  We would need a prescription and additional documentation supporting the need for the ultralightweight wheelchair over less expensive chairs. Sport wheelchairs are not covered by Medicare. Please review our complete Medicare policy.

Will I be charged sales tax?

Is shipping free?
Yes, standard ground shipping is FREE for all manual wheelchairs. (Orders over $50 always ship for free everyday at SpinLife?)

What happens if I need repairs or parts for my manual wheelchair?
SpinLife is here to support you through the complete sale and this includes helping you with any problems that may come up after you receive your manual wheelchair.  SpinLife honors all manufacturer warranties on the products we sell.  Call us at 800-850-0335 and tell us what you need.  If the part is covered by warranty we will send it to you at no charge.  If it is not covered by the manufacturers warranty we will make it available to you at a fair price...just like everything else we sell.

What happens if I want to return my ultralightweight wheelchair?
Ultralightweight and sport wheelchairs are non-returnable as they are manufactured to order.  If the wheelchair arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, SpinLife will arrange for freight and for shipping you an undamaged or corrected unit.
