Good, dependable product when used daily at home or travel.
Reviewer: Nieves D. from Tampa, FL
End User Desc:

Strengths: Durability, ease of use and collapsable design to fit in vehicles and ease air travel.

Weaknesses: hand brake knobs are a little awkward. Perhaps the user just needs to get accustomed to the design. No other perceived or real weaknesses - great product. User received first 9000xt in 05/04 and wanted another in case the first required minor repair. This is someone who uses the product daily.

Reviewer: Sandi T. from Grand Rapids, MI (caregiver)
End User Desc: The user is a 78 year old post CVA man with right sided weakness. He is unable to ambulate however can still propel himself with his feet and left arm

Strengths: lightweight , assemble and ease of use

Weaknesses: the wheels are warped. the left one is extremely mishaped. I feel tht it creates some resistance to the users ability to propel himself with ease.If fact wondering if we can get a replacement for the left.

Reviewer: John M. from Cape May Court House, NJ
End User Desc: A handsome 55 year old male with an A.K.A. I run a support group for people with amputations and quite a few noticed my new "wheels".

Strengths: Lightweight as described, very sturdy, I like the fact that you can get in a different color!

Weaknesses: Just one, the little plastic covers over the front wheel assembly keep popping off. Any suggestions on how to keep them there to protect the nut and attaching bolt?

Wheelchair is perfect for short Asian people!
Reviewer: Patricia F. from Torrance, CA (caregiver)
End User Desc: Wheelchair is for my 82 year old mother, weak from cancer, can barely stand, cannot walk.

Strengths: Lightweight (important when pushing up a ramp), easily removable footrests that are not metal like the rental chair, built in seatbelts, really smart looking wheelchair, rides very quietly.

Weaknesses: The release bar for the footrests get in the way and bruise my mom's legs when we are trying to lift her in and out of the chair to get her to her bed, on and off the commode, so we need to remove the footrests several times each day; love the fact that the wheelchair is short, but it's hard on our backs when we are pushing her around because it is so short; had to remove the metal hand pushing bar on the wheels as it was always scraping the doorway, but it works perfectly without them.

Amazingly low price, good quality.
Reviewer: Michael D. from Wayland, NY
End User Desc: 50 year old Paraplegic. I have been using Invacare products for thirty years. I used to buy these wheelchairs back in the Eighties.

Strengths: Invacare name, quality and warranty, lower price than the manufacturer, lower price than local dealer. The dimensions of the wheelchair are extremely adjustable and comfortable,

Weaknesses: I don't like the back support design, but it is a lot stronger than it used to be. I used to use a Canyon back pack that the supports bolted to the rear of the frame. That was the most convenient one I have ever used. I can't find them anymore.

Easy to use, good contruction, light weight.
Reviewer: Cynthia M. from Waterloo, IA
End User Desc: I am a 59 year old female with spina bifida who had walked on crutches up until two years ago when I was in an auto accident.

Strengths: Strength by far is how easy it is to push and be pushed in this chair. I love the aluminum hand rails on this model. The construction is great and it is far lighter than my previous wheelchair and so much easier to put in my car.

Weaknesses: The only weakness is that it would be nice to have a built in bag on the back to carry items. I do have a denim bag that I had made for me so I can use this but it would be nice to have a built-in bag also.

Overall the user is very pleased with purchase.
Reviewer: Sandra C. from Marion, OH (caregiver)
End User Desc: User is 86 yr old female only 4' 10" tall with limited use of legs, but able to navigate wheel chair with feet.

Strengths: Chair is easy to use and operate basic chair. Due to user's unusually short stature (height), it was great to be able to get a chair that fit her and suited her needs.

Weaknesses: Accessory tray is too heavy and too difficult to attach to chair, i.e. this cannot be done by user without assistance. Accessory tray must be completely removed to get out of chair. User does not have strength to manuever tray alone. User feels tray purchase was waste of money for her.

Reviewer: Stephen R. from Georgetown, DE (caregiver)

Strengths: nylon fabric seats , availability of various heights/features and 10 degree tilt back, light weight. Sort ship time and perfect condition when arrived.

Weaknesses: plastic footrests and desk arms to short and to high for a short statured person to offer support to the frail. When armrests are to high it causes pain and unnatural elevation of the sholders. (I'm a trained OTA and have seen this problem repeatedly.)

Many improvments over previuos models
Reviewer: Robert W. from Warren, MI (caregiver)
End User Desc: user has MS and spends the day in this wheelchair. We needed a chair that operated simply but reliably.

Strengths: Ease of adjusting the arm rests both up and down and swing away. Simple and easy removing and replacing the foot supports

Weaknesses: The wheel lock mechanism is located such that one must bend over quite far to reach the levers. Especially difficult if wheel lock extensions are in place and/or the user has shorter arms. This is a VERY poor feature design.

custom fit
Reviewer: Diana H. from Dekalb, IL
End User Desc: degenerative neropathy in arms and legs, spinal digeneration. very bad balance and very limited walking ability.

Strengths: custom fit was critical to comfort. With a high tech cushion, it took pressure off my spine. The light weight and full swing on the foot pedal made it fold very narrow. The pedals were very easy even to remove. I had used 3 borrowed chairs before getting this one and the difference was like night and day!I would recommend the tires with the tread. They grip the wet ground a lot easier. The ten degree bend on the top back takes the pressure off my shoulders.

Weaknesses: I still find folding it stiff. If it were easier to fold and unfold I might be able to do it easier. Might be the new paint and more use would make it easier? I would have loved to have gotten the "table top" add on but it was so expensive.I could then have an easier time working with a service dog and not have to rely on getting to some flat service to work on.They say the height of the back can adjust higher or lower but I haven't figured an easy way to do that. It's just too bad that althought the price was quite reasonable compared to all the other sites I looked at,I had to somehow come up with the money on my own since medicaid wouldn't cover it.I have a long thigh to knee and unfortunately there was not a seat long enough. The seat pad at 20 inches did help.I didn't notice it when checking out features, but if the break tips could come in very bight colors, they would be easier to find in low light.

End User Desc: My mom who is a polio victim of the 1930's. Paralyzed from the waist down. Has been in a wheelchair since 7 yrs old. (1937)

Strengths: The chair being an inch and 1/2 slimmer than most 18" chairs....helps with the bathroom doorway. Ordering the 18" depth seat is great for folks that have longer legs-more support under the knee area. The space saver arms that both flip up and remove as well.

Weaknesses: Very poor vinyl quality. The ad claims reinforced seats but it doesn't seem to be that at all ! The chair was delivered with a small slit/wear mark in the vinyl by the front left screw. It is now tearing with the weight/pressure and use. Who do I call for a replacement before it gets worse? I was disappointed that the chair does not have longer tubes out the back with a tipping device/rubber foot inserts to assist me tipping my mom up and over curbs and door sills....are attachments available....I didn't recall seeing them on an option list when I ordered it.

Reviewer: Sherri L. from Dover, NJ (caregiver)
End User Desc: My mother is a tiny 94 year old woman who broke her right hip in 2001 and her left wrist in 2002.

Strengths: It meets all of my mother's needs exactly. She is sitting more comfortably and enjoying her surroundings more. The chair is so handsome that all the residents and employees notice and comment on it.

Weaknesses: The brake system works very well but the handle protrudes outward slightly, and this causes some difficulty when visitors are sitting beside her at her table, as when helping her eat her lunch. Some of the joints of the wheelchair (ex. where the horizontal seat tube connects to the vertical leg tube) are sharply angled and she is able to bump her legs on them in the area of her knees. We are going to cover the joints of the wheelchair to prevent this from happening.

Seat Depth1
Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg.

Back Height2
Measured from the seat base to the top of the wheelchair back. Depends on how much upper back support is needed, and also affects freedom for the upper body to rotate.

Rear Seat to Floor3
Measurement from the ground to the rear seat edge. Relative to the front seat-to-floor dimension, this determines the rearward slope ("dump" or "squeeze") of the wheelchair seat.

Hanger Angle4
Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular.

Seat Width5
Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant.

Wheel Camber6
Angle of the wheel relative to the vertical. More camber improves stability and agility, but also limits ability to pass through narrow spaces. A typical daily wheelchair uses three degrees of camber.

Front Seat to Floor7
Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Do not add the footrest clearance if the wheelchair will be foot-propelled.
