Overview of the Advance Patient Lift

The Advance's unique swan-neck leg design can get close to even the widest of obstacles yet folds simply and completely for storage. And its 13.7" minimum height allows it to transfer from the floor to the bed with ease.

What Makes This Different
The legs on the Hoyer Advance Patient Lift are adjustable for width and can enable access around armchairs and wheelchairs with ease. The leg adjuster pedal located at the rear of the base is compressed DOWN to open the legs upward and UP to close the legs and can be carried out while carrying the patient if the lift is moving.

Why We Like It
The Advance™ Electric Patient Lift from Hoyer represents a true step forward in patient lift design and performance. It uses the very latest design and manufacturing technologies to ensure that the Advance is the most functional and stylish lift in its class today.

What You Need to Know Before Ordering
Some assembly required. Your Hoyer Advance Patient Lift comes standard with a rechargeable battery at no additional cost. Battery charge requires 4 hours.  It is recommended that the batteries be charged immediately upon receipt.

Smooth movement in elevating or lowering patient
Reviewer: P. from Marlton, NJ (caregiver)

End User Desc: The person has no use of his legs or one arm.

Strengths: The unit moves the patient up and down slowly and smoothly. Rotating the person while elevated is very easy.

Weaknesses: Unable to steer the unit with the patient elevated. It moves smoothly across the hardwood floor without anyone in the unit. Once you put a person in the unit the front casters do not move easily.

The electric lift is excellent.
Reviewer: C. from Northridge, CA (caregiver)

End User Desc: My paraplegic husband has been wheelchair confined for 50 years; however, within the past 2.5 years, he has had nine surgeries.

Strengths: The ease of adjusting width and height to mobilize the lift are a great advantage for both patient and lift handler(s).

Weaknesses: No weaknesses thus far, except perhaps some difficulty folding it.

Easy to use once we figured out how to fix it when it quits mid-hoist.
Reviewer: L. from Port Ludlow, WA (caregiver)

End User Desc: ALS

Strengths: Small footprint. Secure attachments. Low base.

Weaknesses: Quits mid-hoist if control is not plugged in properly.

Product works as advertised.
Reviewer: A. from Center Line, MI (caregiver)

End User Desc: Can't walk or stand due to dementia.

Strengths: Provides capability to lift disabled persons.

Weaknesses: The operating manual does not make clear that the electric plug must be removed from the socket for the device to work. Initially, I thought the product was defective. The operating manual that came with the free sling is inadequate in my opinion.

Great. My home is small. This is the most compact one I could find.
Reviewer: M. from Dayton, VA (caregiver)

End User Desc: Mom can no longer get into bed. I can no longer get her into the bed. So mostly it is used for lifting.

Strengths: Compact Easy to use

Weaknesses: It is not easy to fold. I wish it was because of the space I have available in my home (small halls, etc.) It would be nice to be able to move it from room to room. I would use it more if it was easier to fold. That was one of the reasons I purchased it -- its folding capabilities -- but it is too hard for me to do.

Very good lift so far
Reviewer: A. from Somerset, KY (caregiver)

End User Desc: This lift handles my almost 18 year old with CP and Autism. He is non ambulatory and weighs 160lbs. This is the second lift I have owned.

Strengths: Lifting range. The foot pedal for adjusting width, which has two width choices.

Weaknesses: The up and down buttons to work the lift are too small. The handles that you put the remote on are too slick. I had to put some sticky type of liner and tape it so the remote would stay in place. Charging cord is too short, and I wonder if there may be a problem in the future with the plug that charges the batteries is upside down?

Depends on their needs
Reviewer: K. from Estero, FL (caregiver)

End User Desc: 80 years of age. 230 pounds. Can't walk

Strengths: Construction and working details

Weaknesses: Wheels not big enough. Not good on carpet. No way to control sway. Automatic lift mechanism hit patients knees when raised.

Hard to get the back brace under and or around
Reviewer: T. from Keaau, HI (caregiver)

End User Desc: My sweetheart has 4th stage Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. He is dependent upon a 2nd party helping him with every aspect of his daily life and function

Strengths: Lifting. I see how it can work when our home care assistant uses it. In spite of the negative response, I would recommend it to anyone who asks me if I like it.

Weaknesses: Figuring out how to wrap the back brace around someone who cannot roll over and sit up and away from the back of his wheel chair. Hard to roll on indoor/outdoor carpet from the living room to the bathroom.
