Overview of the Advance Patient Lift

The Advance's unique swan-neck leg design can get close to even the widest of obstacles yet folds simply and completely for storage. And its 13.7" minimum height allows it to transfer from the floor to the bed with ease.

What Makes This Different
The legs on the Hoyer Advance Patient Lift are adjustable for width and can enable access around armchairs and wheelchairs with ease. The leg adjuster pedal located at the rear of the base is compressed DOWN to open the legs upward and UP to close the legs and can be carried out while carrying the patient if the lift is moving.

Why We Like It
The Advance™ Electric Patient Lift from Hoyer represents a true step forward in patient lift design and performance. It uses the very latest design and manufacturing technologies to ensure that the Advance is the most functional and stylish lift in its class today.

What You Need to Know Before Ordering
Some assembly required. Your Hoyer Advance Patient Lift comes standard with a rechargeable battery at no additional cost. Battery charge requires 4 hours.  It is recommended that the batteries be charged immediately upon receipt.

Hard to get the back brace under and or around
Reviewer: T. from Keaau, HI (caregiver)

End User Desc: My sweetheart has 4th stage Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. He is dependent upon a 2nd party helping him with every aspect of his daily life and function

Strengths: Lifting. I see how it can work when our home care assistant uses it. In spite of the negative response, I would recommend it to anyone who asks me if I like it.

Weaknesses: Figuring out how to wrap the back brace around someone who cannot roll over and sit up and away from the back of his wheel chair. Hard to roll on indoor/outdoor carpet from the living room to the bathroom.

Good quality; I'm pleased with the product
Reviewer: V. from Ontario, OR

End User Desc: Age 75, Quadriplegic, Male, approx. 175-180 pounds

Strengths: Ease of use; this will greatly facilitate transferring from chair to bed

Weaknesses: Not the lift, but the sling: wider part of sling (which goes under the legs) could be larger to cover more area under the legs

Works well for the purpose we needed.
Reviewer: H. from Springfield, IL (caregiver)

End User Desc:

Strengths: When not in use, folds up making it usable in mobile home or apartment.

Weaknesses: When folding down it must be done in one motion otherwise it hangs up. As a one person user lifting up and folding down in one motion is tough to do.

Portable, but you need a good size trunk for transporting
Reviewer: M. from Fairfeild, CA (caregiver)

End User Desc: Needed a way to get mom to Dr. Appointments without renting handicap transport. This is portable, and does fit in a trunk of a car.

Strengths: Portable

Weaknesses: The wheels are plastic. Hard to roll on carpet.

Does the intended job.
Reviewer: F. from Azle, TX (caregiver)

End User Desc: Seventy one year old female diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, falls easily, mostly wheelchair bound but has to get up occasionally.

Strengths: High quality, good design and meets expectations of a patient lift.

Weaknesses: The weakness is not with the lift, it's with the sling. First, it is confusing and complicated with the crossing straps and all the different loop attach points. Consider a care giver in not much better shape than the user of having to get down in the floor and wrestle that sling under her and not being able to get back up off the floor himself. What is needed is a rescue buoy of sorts. Something to slip over the head and under the arms to just get her high enough to get a chair under her. Then the sling could be positioned in the chair and more easily attached to the user for further movement /transportation. Also the wheels are too small to maneuver in plush carpet.

Can't be home without the lift
Reviewer: S. from Naples, FL (caregiver)

End User Desc: My wife is 71, unable to stand. This provides the opportunity to move from bed, chair and commode. Tumor imbedded in spinal cord removed 6 years ago.

Strengths: The ease of transfer of my wife from bed to chair or commode. The fact that the arm goes down to 12 inches from the floor enables me to pick her up when she slides out of the chair. Previously fallen 50 times before the lift.

Weaknesses: The rubber based wheels tend to catch on the edge of transition to carpet from the wood floors. Wheels get caught on the door jams and walls. They seem to grasp the walls. Is there possible a set of all plastic wheels or even some larger diameter wheels? I don't know if I would pass a drivers test for use of the Hoyer Lift. Too many ridges in the road.
