Choose from a variety of different legrest types. Swing away removable footrests are generally the most popular legrest.

• Fixed – this type of legrest cannot be removed for transfer and are most commonly found on ridged frame chairs.
• Swing-Away – This type of legrest is the most common basic legrest. It has footplates on each legrest and can swing out of the way for transfers.
• Elevating – Elevating legrests are for users who need the option to elevate their legs. They can also be ideal for users who cannot tolerate a 90 degree bend in the knee or have after surgery swelling or fixed joint issues.

Choose between a folding frame and a rigid frame. Folding frames are recommended for users that need to transport their chair. Rigid frames are lighter, since there is no need for the additional hardware of a folding frame, but they are not as compact and easy to transport.

Seat width is measured at the widest part of the body below the waist plus one inch, ensuring ease of movement in the chair. To measure, sit in a chair or flat surface with your knees bent at a 90 degree angle. Find the widest part of your hip/thigh area and measure straight across. To ensure correct measurement, we suggest placing a book on either side of the widest part of your thigh and measuring from book to book. Note: Seat width will impact the overall width of the chair. You will also want to measure your doorways to ensure your chair will fit in your home.

Consider the weight of the chair. Lighter is generally always better especially when it comes to transporting and self-propelling.
