Shop at Home: Sensible, Safe Internet Shopping

Safe internet shopping offers many avenues for making our lives more convenient and accessible. With just a few clicks of the mouse and a combination of keystrokes we can have anything the market has to offer delivered right to the front door.

Internet shopping is not only practical it’s exciting! But there are ways to be taken advantage of. Here are two key considerations to help protect your funds and your identity.

Safe internet shopping

online shopping is convenient

Know Your Vendor: In face-to-face transactions, it’s always a good choice to buy from companies you know and trust, like SpinLife. Safe internet shopping is no different. How do you know if the website you’re using is safe? There are three things to look for: the URL, the SSL (secure sockets layer), and the lock. Before you buy, look at the URL in the address bar. Is everything spelled correctly? Often scammers will use common misspellings of popular websites to fool unsuspecting buyers. If everything is spelled correctly, look at the domain at the end of the address, is it a less commonly used domain such as .net rather than .com? If so, you may have been redirected to another website. If your website is spelled correctly and ending in the correct domain, good!

SSL capture

Spinlife.com secure online checkout. Notice “https” at the beginning, and the closed padlock to the far right

There are only a few more things to look for to ensure a safe purchase. Look at the letters in front of the URL. The SSL encryption is present if the first letters of the URL are HTTPS:// rather than HTTP://. The last thing to look for is the picture of a closed padlock, which will be either at the end of the URL in the address bar, or in the status bar at the bottom of your browser.

Know What’s Required:

You’ve chosen your merchandise and you’ve checked all of the above; now you’re ready to pay!

Understanding what most vendors will ask of you will help prevent giving away sensitive and valuable parts of your identity. You should never give your entire Social Security Number to confirm payment, and rarely will you give your birthday.  Most websites will ask simply for your credit card number, expiration date, the name on the card, and sometimes the CCV (three digit code on the back)
Groceries, medical supplies, gifts, electronics and so much more are available to you online! And with a little smart shopping, your needs can be met with little to no risk. Happy safe spending from your friends at Spinlife!

Product Spotlight: The new Roho SmartCheck Cushions

Spinlife is excited to feature the new line up of Roho SmartCheck Cushions!

Roho asked clinicians and users alike how they could improve on the Roho Dry Floatation experience. The overwhelming response was “make it easier to monitor your pressures”. And Roho listened, bringing to market the new Roho SmartCheck Cushions. – See SpinLife’s Selection

ROHO SmartCheck Air Cushions by ROHO

SmartCheck Air Cushion

It’s a given the importance of minimizing pressure points on the body to help eliminate the occurrence of skin breakdown or pressure sores.

Roho’s Dry Floatation Technology guards against the issue by what they call the “Four Principles of Dry Floatation”. The individual cells that make up the Roho cushion offer six degrees of movement. Lessening the forces of friction and shear, and deformation of the body with movement help keep skin healthy. Roho Cushions maintain a low surface tension, and the forces against the body are “constantly restoring” with movement of the patient throughout the day. The individual cells allow for greater air circulation beneath the patient as well.

The tricky part has often been achieving just the right pressure in your Roho to suit your own personal needs. After all, this is not a one-size fits all situation.

Filling with air, sitting on the cushion, opening the valve. Letting just enough but not too much air out to achieve the maximum immersion without bottoming out is somewhat of an art. Some folks find it difficult to do without assistance.

The addition of Roho SmartCheck Technology eliminates the guesswork. Real-time feedback to ensure proper cushion inflation range with the push of a button. It also provides the user with a tool to check and easily maintain your ROHO cushion. The Roho SmartCheck Sensor stores and displays your recommended pressures, so you can monitor your inflation whenever you wish.

April Fool’s Day Brain Game- Top 10 songs with “Fool” in the title

The King himself"A fool such as I"

In recognition of April 1st, we thought a little April Fool’s Day Brain Game might be in order.

You know they say that playing memory games is another way of keeping your mind sharp, so I spent a few minutes dusting off my personal memory banks to come up with this list of songs with the word “fool “ in the title. Some are pretty memorable, others, maybe not so much! I bet you can think of others, so please,  play the April Fool’s Day Brain Game and add your personal favorites.

Here’s my top 10 in decending order of dates:

From 1981  Who could forget Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb’s “ What Kind of fool”  Just look at that album cover! April Fool’s Day Brain Game What Kind of Fool

From 1971 Elvin Bishops catchy “Fooled around and Fell in love” peaked at number 3 on the Billboard charts that year. This video is a truly a blast from the past!

From 1968 The Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools” is still one of my all-time favorites! Definitely worth watching.

From 1967  The amazing Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album featured Paul McCartney’s ballad “The Fool on the Hill”. Do you know that song was so overshadowed by the rest of the album, it  did not make it to the Billboard Charts until it was covered some years later by Sergio Mendez and the Brazil 66…

This one from 1963:  Do you happen to remember Leslie Gore’s rendition of “She’s a Fool” which topped out at # 5 on the Billboard Charts?

From 1961 Sammy Davis Jr. gave the world the beautiful “ What kind of fool am I?” That classic song topped the Billboard charts at #6 and won the Grammy Song of the year as well. That song was actually from a Broadway musical. Can you remember what musical that was a part of?

Listen here to another hit from 1961- Brenda Lee’s “ Fool # 1” which peaked at #3 that year.

And of course in  1959 “The King” himself, Elvis Presley brought the world

From 1958 Ricky Nelson’s popular “ Poor Little Fool’ Topped the billboard charts at #1 for two weeks in a row. Didn’t he have a TV show as well?

1956 Frankie Lyman and the teenagers performed “Why do Fools Fall in Love?’ Apparently Frankie was 13 years old at the time he wrote this song. You’ll love this video from the Frankie Lane show- It was their first television appearance!

So play  the April Fool’s Day Brain Game. Can you come up with other songs? I bet if you ask your family and friends you’ll have your own top 10 in no time!

Have fun with it, and have a great April Fool’s Day from all of us at Spinlife!
