| Seat
Depth1 Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg. Back Height2 Measured from the seat base to the top of the chair back. Power wheelchair riders need upper back support, particularly for the moment of initial acceleration. Hanger Angle3 Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the electric power wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular. Seat Width4 Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant. Front Seat to Floor5 Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Electric power wheelchairs are almost never foot-propelled by the user - so excluding the additional two inch footrest height for propelling is very rare. |

End User Desc: I am 52 and have primary lateral sclerosis, that makes it difficult to walk because of weakness in my legs and other extremities.
Strengths: easy to take apart and put together. Travels well on airlines as long as you take the controller off and bring it on the plane as a carry on. Turns nicely in tight spaces as long as you are gentle on the stick. Good battery life. Adjustable foot plate and chair arms for my short stature is a plus.
Weaknesses: ground clearence should be higher. Have difficulty with some handicap curbs. Should have cheaper priced cane holders.

End User Desc: Thin 57 yo female, demyelinating peripheral neuropathy
Strengths: Family members can disassemble pretty easily, fits nicely in just about any car. Very comfortable seat if you're a small person. Works well in a mall or office building. Perfect for going to the dentist or out to dinner with family when we don't want to take the van and fullsize chair, but should not be considered for more extensive use even at home.
Weaknesses: Says the seat "lifts off" but there is a screw holding it to the post. Was harder to take apart than we expected, but it does work. Has trouble with minor incline. Very short battery life (2-3 hours). All of this was expected from the description, just be aware that it's designed for short errands. We just wish the seat was easier to remove.

Strengths: Works well when ground is wet. The ATM chair I have does not work when wet wheels spin. Easily put together and taken apart.
