Product Basics

Consider this the Humvee of scooters. The big, heavy-duty Hurricane PMV from Pride is a great off-roader, ideal if you like the woods or camping. It has a 9 mph top speed, rugged construction, standard full lighting package, and independent front and rear dynamic suspension for smooth rides over bumpy terrain. The delta tiller is nice if you have limited hand dexterity; operate the scooter with a single finger or thumb, rest your arms on the tiller sides.

Excellent scooter to get out & about.
Reviewer: Karen F. from Moundsville, WV (caregiver)
End User Desc: This scooter was purchased for my 81 year old father who can't drive anymore & can't walk without a walker. This scooter now allows my Dad freedom.

Strengths: The extra battery(more go power), built tough for getting around town, the ease of use, & the comfort(you don't feel the bumps like you'd expect)

Weaknesses: That it doesn't work with the canopy that I purchased & the fact that I wasn't told this ahead of time.

A powerhouse. Wonderful
Reviewer: Paul B. from Santa Cruz, CA
End User Desc:

Strengths: The machine is all it was cracked to be. I'm glad I checked the Pride talk prior to purchasing or I would have bought the machine that would not have met needs.

Weaknesses: When the Wrangler arrived the instructions were out of date. The screwdriver called for in the instructions was a normal Phillips head and flat type, but what was necessary was a hex screwdriver. Also the battery was disconnected and there was nothing to warn me to first connect the battery so I wasted a day "charging" a battery that was disconnected. You need to include a sheet of "Getting Started" instructions that are up to date. Also, some of the items I purchased were not included in the two boxes of accessories that came separately. I will contact you about that separately.

Not as versatile as I had hoped
Reviewer: Todd M. from Siler City, NC
End User Desc: 28yr old T-11 para. Active Male user.

Strengths: strong quality construction good top speed and battery life nice wheels comfortable chair

Weaknesses: unstability at higher speeds due to suspension inadequacies. It has shocks and springs, but it is almost as if they are non-functional. The scooter will tip at high speeds if the driver is not fully in-tune with the machine. I was hoping for a good off-road scooter, but other than my back yard, I would not take it offroad.

Buy it, you will love it!
Reviewer: Laurence N. from Tumwater, WA
End User Desc: I have a very bad back, now 80 years old, Declined not to have surgery in 1973 not good results then. Arthritis is still at a problem at my age, Two h

Strengths: I like the improved speed. I have to travel 10 miles to the grocery store, this helps a lot. I love it! ....Laurence

Weaknesses: Even though it has independent supension, it still rides very rough on the side walks (very bad back)I think this should be improved. Better tires? Feels every expansive joint in the side walk. At the expense shorter range. It rains a lot here in Olympia, I would like to see better rain protection for me and the scooter.

Hands down the best scooter I have ever owned!
Reviewer: Marya M. from Perris, CA
End User Desc: 32 years old; partially disabled after left leg was crushed at knee level.

Strengths: My Hurricane exceeded my expectations in every way possible. The custom seat fits me perfect and is more comfortable than my recliner. The whole thing is very sturdy and well thought out. I can even use the front fender as an alternate footrest location with no fear of breaking anything. I love that I can turn on just the fender mounted headlights when I'm in a crowd and not blind children, but can turn on the high and low lights when I'm out in the open. It handles great over virtually any terrain. The speed selection setup is great; it allows me first to select high or low speed (rabbit or turtle) and then use the variable speed limiter knob to dial in the exact maximum speed I want it to go. I can "set it and forget it" to match the walking pace of anyone with me so I don't "run away" from them. The highest speed setting is almost scary fast but it sure is nice to be able to zoom through parking lots or down the sidewalk without feeling like a slug trying to run a marathon. It's fun to zoom around too! Best of all it handles hills like a champ. Even with my 330 lbs weighting it down it has zoomed right up every grade I've tried it on with complaints.

Weaknesses: Personally I don't find any weaknesses for my purposes. For some folks though, the size and weight would be a negative. This one big honking scooter! I have a small trailer with a tail gate ramp that (just barely) holds two Hurricanes (my other half just bought one too). This way I don't have to dissasemble anything or have some cumbersome lift or what not. I just ride them onto the trailer, tie them down and go. But for some folks I can see where the size would be a big negative. If you want a powerful, fast, and rough terrain capable scooter and don't care about size and weight then the Hurricane is the best there is (the Hummer of scooters) but if you want something light and easily portable... look elsewhere.

Reviewer: Casey V. from Halifax, VA

Strengths: Ease of use and more mobility for me. It is even more stable than I expected. I have been pleased so far it was money well spent.

Weaknesses: It has a little trouble in thick gravel it will bog out and stop.
