Description
The Harmar AL500 Power Wheelchair lift is one of the few lifts available that can be upgraded to use with a Class II hitch-equipped vehicle (comes standard for use with a Class III hitch). Its quality features, construction and durability make it one of the most popular outside lifts on the market. The Swing-Away option provides easy access to the trunk or lift gate of any vehicle. Deck automatically folds up, out of the way, when empty. Unit Weight 98 Lbs.Using automatic retractors the AL500 can secure virtually any power chair. The retractors can be attached to your chair by two methods. One method uses a spreader bar that slides between the seat and seat post, which has provisions for the retractors. If there is no seat post, the other method uses metal loops that attach to the frame of the chair. Both methods add only a few ounces of weight to the chair and have been extensively tested to insure complete security. They can be removed without damaging a chair.
Unloaded and in the folded position, Harmar's outside lifts only extend 12 inches behind the bumper. Add just 2 inches more for the Swing Away Option.

End User Desc: My wife has dystonia. Her left arm and left leg are affected and she is unable to walk or use her left hand.
Strengths: It is very easy, for one that is not disabled, to take on and off the vehicle. Therefore when it is not needed it is not in the way. This is a lift that fits on the back of the vehicle and if one does not use it every day it might prove to be in the way if you can not install and uninstall as needed. This is not a problem since I am the caregiver and not the disabled.
Weaknesses: It would be a difficult product to use if there was not a caregiver and it had to be left on the vehicle. Even at that, I would not recommended for one who has no help. The tie down straps would be difficult for the disabled to use.

This warranty starts on the date of the retail purchase, provided the warranty certificate is returned to Harmar Mobility, completely and property filled out within ten (10) days of purchase. This warranty does not cover maintenance or adjustments. Harmar Mobility will not be charged for labor, consequential damage or repair expenses. Harmar Mobility will not, under any circumstances, be liable for the loss of the use of its products or the vehicles on which they are installed or loss of time. This warranty becomes null and void if the product has been lost, damaged by accident, misused and/or neglected, or if the product has been modified in any way. Defective parts must be returned, prepaid, to Harmar Mobility for inspection prior to credit or replacement. At Harmar Mobility’s option, any part found to have been modified, over-stressed, damaged by accident, or misused is not covered by this warranty.
THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS, INCLUDING ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES THAT EXTEND BEYOND THE DESCRIPTION OF THE LIMITED WARRANTY DESCRIBED HEREIN.
All Harmar Mobility products are designed and tested to operate flawlessly for years of trouble-free use with very little maintenance. Please refer to the Owners' Manual for specific product maintenance schedules.
Yes. The lift is designed to be fully weather resistant and designed to withstand outdoor use. The remote hand controls available with some models, however, are not weather resistant and must be removed and stored inside the vehicle.
Spinlife.com will be glad to discuss your needs and recommend the proper lift for your application. For online orders simple enter the vehicle make, model, and year - an expert customer service representative will cross check to ensure that it is compatible.
Many Harmar lifts have standard backup systems that allow them to be moved manually by qualified mechanics such as roadside assistance technicians. Harmar Mobility recommends that end users should not attempt to use the manual override feature.
While it is possible to move a lift from one vehicle to another, it is not recommended to do so frequently. If two different vehicles will be used often, we recommend having a lift installed on each vehicle.
No, all Harmar Mobility lifts must be powered by the supplied electrical harness. The harness has full-length leads that attach directly to the battery.
All trailer hitches are divided into distinct classes and are rated to a specific weight carrying and a weight towing capacity. The COMBINED weight of the lift and power chair or scooter must fall under the weight carrying capacity for the hitch and the vehicle. Spinlife.com can assist you in determining the correct weight for your particular application.
The lift will be installed onto your vehicle via the vehicle’s hitch. A hitch is a device that is permanently attached to a vehicle to provide for towing or carrying capabilities. Harmar Mobility does not supply hitches; they can be purchased and installed through a local hitch dealer.
Harmar Mobility recommends the addition of the Swing Away Option, which allows you to easily pivot an unloaded, folded lift away from the vehicle for clear access to tail and lift gates.
If the vehicle will accept a Class III trailer hitch, you generally will not need to supplement the suspension. If the vehicle has, or will only accept, a Class II trailer hitch, call Spinlife.com or a hitch manufacturer for guidance.
