Great product for this price range
Reviewer: Marjorie N. from Maple Valley, WA (caregiver)

Strengths: The fabric on this wheelchair is more comfortable than vinyl and slips less in transport.

Great chair, bad handrims
Reviewer: Renee S. from East Wenatchee, WA
End User Desc: age 54, stroke survivor, severe congestive heart failure, mobility disabled.

Strengths: This is an excellent chair, well built, light, easy to get in a car trunk, top feature is how easy the footrests are to take off and put on, good chair except see weaknesses.

Weaknesses: The handrims are very poor, they substituted a less expensive plastic composite handrim for the normal aluminum handrim pictured on the website, handrims are not round so my stroke disabled hands cannot grip the wheel sufficiently for easy mobility. I must pay extra for new handrims to make the chair work properly. Company tells me they do not stock rounded handrims like other chairs have. No refund on the chair as the chair was removed from the box and used to see if it works. Poor guarantee.

better than using a loaner transport chair
Reviewer: Jeanine M. from Valatie, NY
End User Desc: I suffer from UMCD and I have been severely injured using "loaner" wheelchairs at Museums, grocer, etc. The chair we purchased is fully collapsible, a

Strengths: Price is by far the most reasonable we have found; for a middle class family, the investment was substantial but possible. The chair collapses easily and stores well in our car for transport use, and the lock bar we purchased is a very sound extra. I feel this chair is SAFE, it will not collapse or shift, nor will the wheels "lock up" --something that often happens when using a wheelchair provided by a mall, grocer, etc.

Weaknesses: The design of the chair may need attention, as it is difficult to navigate over a door threshold or across a soft surface like carpet. Because of the need for hard surfaces, it is relatively useless for home use--I am forced to use two canes to get the paper or mail, for instance; or I must ask my son or husband to help me out of the chair, walk it through/over the obstacle and then sit back down on the chair when it is back on tile or cement.

VA approved, easy to transport, Doesn't look clinical
Reviewer: bret G. from Overland parkj, KS
End User Desc: 280lb amputee no foot

Strengths: I literally ran the wheels off the last one. Yard work and tooling around in parking lots and cement surfaces, has convinced me this is a superior product.

This is a great wheelchair; I'd buy it again.
Reviewer: Dale J. from Dearborn, MI
End User Desc: I am 51 years old and recovering from a car accident and a broken leg. I use a walker and the wheelchair I bought from you.

Strengths: It has a fresh design. It's devices are well thoughtout. It's light and transports well. It's all flat black looks are modern and decidedly not 'institutional'.

Weaknesses: Maybe, it has too many plastic parts. It remains to be seen if these parts will crack and get weak with age.

Works for it's intended purpose.
Reviewer: William O. from Pflugerville, TX (caregiver)
End User Desc: Used for an 82 year old. Used for age limited mobility

Strengths: The seat back and bottom are a breathable nylon material that is better than the vinyl used on other models. It is also lightweight.

Weaknesses: The front wheels are a little thin. We picked up a small stone and caused a small hole in the front wheel. It is barely noticable, but it is there. Otherwise the Guardian Escort is a good value for the money.

Seat Depth1
Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg.

Back Height2
Measured from the seat base to the top of the wheelchair back. Depends on how much upper back support is needed, and also affects freedom for the upper body to rotate.

Rear Seat to Floor3
Measurement from the ground to the rear seat edge. Relative to the front seat-to-floor dimension, this determines the rearward slope ("dump" or "squeeze") of the wheelchair seat.

Hanger Angle4
Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular.

Seat Width5
Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant.

Wheel Camber6
Angle of the wheel relative to the vertical. More camber improves stability and agility, but also limits ability to pass through narrow spaces. A typical daily wheelchair uses three degrees of camber.

Front Seat to Floor7
Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Do not add the footrest clearance if the wheelchair will be foot-propelled.
