End User Desc: 64 year old male. Severe right side stroke has made it difficult to walk distances longer than roughly 150 feet without resting.
Strengths: Compact, and has tight turning radius.
Weaknesses: Assembly of two base pieces is tricky. Would recommend contacting manufacturer customer service, where good, clear instructions on this step are available. User manual is very poor.

End User Desc: User is 66 yr. old man (my husband) with multiple back problems which make it extremely painful for him to walk more than a few feet at a time.
Strengths: The main strength, as far as I am concerned, is the weight and portability of the product. I am a 62 yr. old female with minor back problems, but I can easily disassemble the chair and load it in the trunk of our car by myself, and then unload it and reassemble it. This has made us much more independent since we don't have to rely on having someone to help with the handling of the chair.
Weaknesses: The instruction booklet was not very helpful. We still haven't figured out how to raise the seat, but my husband has gotten adjusted to the height as it is, and is satisfied with it. Would be better if the back was higher.

End User Desc: 40 year old female, inflammatory arthritis, mild COPD, birth defect in legs, fatigue, CVID, painful to stand for more than 10-15 min.
Strengths: The chair's top speed is reasonably fast - a moderately fast walking pace, so I can easily keep up with my husband. Easy to transport in the back of our car. Husband doesn't even need to break it completely down. Handles small bumps well. Very maneuverable, can turn around in lightly occupied elevators.
Weaknesses: For semi-active users, a second battery set/charger/battery case are a good idea as the battery wears down pretty fast. So if you want to go windowshopping, then buy groceries the same day, you'll need two batteries. Limit the max speed to one or two dots at first - there's a learning curve in driving it. Steering stick works best held between base of thumb and hand, not held in fingers, to prevent slipping. Arrived assembled too tightly to be adjusted, so I am stuck with non-adjustable foot rest, seat height, etc.

End User Desc: I purchased the Geo for my bother. He is 57, a hemipalegic, an amputee, hard headed, and independent.
Strengths: The Drive Medical Geo is a great electric wheelchair at a wonderful price. I purchased the Drive Medical Geo to replace the Pride Mobilty Go Chair. The Go Chair lasted around 18 months then the controller went out. The Geo Chair cost less than the replacement controller for the Go Chair. This has happened to me twice with Jazzy products and their costumer support was nonexistent. As a test I called Drive Medical and was able to talk directly with a technician! SpinLife was very reliable and quick in getting the Geo Chair to me. No worries there at all.
Weaknesses: None experienced.

End User Desc: 39 year old female diagnosed with MS, no use of legs, minimal use of right hand.
Strengths: It seems to be the most portable of the electric wheelchairs. It's easy to take apart into four pieces and put back together again for transport. Also even though we were told that it wasn't to be used for everyday use, so far it seems to be holding up. The seat is much more comfortable than the Go-Chair. The turning radius is good and it's pretty easy to maneuver.
Weaknesses: We have only had the chair a couple of months and the battery has already started to lose the ability to fully charge. Still, if you don't have funding to cover the cost of an expensive electric wheelchair, this one seems to work well for the price.

Weaknesses: Please do something about the LED lights. I never adjust to this light in my eyes. Finally I put tape over it. Now I punch the buttons blindly, but at least I can see at night. I never found the instructions for assembling it so the seat is wobbly and I can't figure out how I can free wheel.

Depth1 Measure from the most posterior point of the body to the inside of the knee, minus at least two inches. Some prefer more leg overhang to make room for their hand when lifting their leg. Back Height2 Measured from the seat base to the top of the chair back. Power wheelchair riders need upper back support, particularly for the moment of initial acceleration. Hanger Angle3 Determines how far the toes extend away from the body, measured from the horizontal. A tighter angle allows the electric power wheelchair to turn around in less space. Depends in part on ability of the knee to bend towards the perpendicular. Seat Width4 Determined by the widest point of the body from knee to hip, plus an inch to ensure room to move. Consider bulk of clothing, particularly a heavy winter coat, if relevant. Front Seat to Floor5 Measure the leg from the back of the knee to the sole of the foot. Then subtract the thickness of the cushion when it is compressed. Next, add a minimum of two inches for footrest clearance. Electric power wheelchairs are almost never foot-propelled by the user - so excluding the additional two inch footrest height for propelling is very rare. |
